Broken Ikea Chairs

2006-2007

I found these broken wicker chairs in Toronto.  They had Ikea tags on them, so I sent Ikea a fax to see if they could tell me anything about where they were made and if they could be fixed, but I didn’t hear back from them.

I repaired the chairs myself and included them in several exhibitions where they served as both an art object and a functional pair of chairs to sit on.  After they were shown in Working Back at the Belkin Satellite in Vancouver, they were left out for free in front of the gallery by Kara Uzelman, another artist in that show.  She was asked to move them and so put them out on a street behind her studio.

Photos of the repaired chairs left on the street by Kara Uzelman.
